Heckler at Netanyahu Speech Injured by AIPAC Members Then Arrested at Hospital

Rae Abileah, a 28-year-old Jewish activist of Israeli descent was attacked by members of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Abileah, a member of Code Pink, stood up when PM Netanyahu began speaking of freedom and protests in Tunisia and Egypt, and shouted “Occupying Land Is Indefensible…. No more occupation, stop Israel war crimes, equal rights for Palestinians, occupation is indefensible.”

Abileah suffered injuries to the neck and shoulder from AIPAC members that attacked and tackled her. Congress members booed her and then cheered as she was attacked, giving Netanyahu another standing ovation and cheering the Israeli Prime Minister. Netanyahu took advantage of the moment to make more false statements:  

“You know I take it as a badge of honor, and so should you, that in our free societies that you can have protest;  you can’t have these protest in the farcical parliaments in Tehran or in Tripoli. This is real democracy.”

Abileah was taken to George Washington University Hospital where she was arrested. She released a statement from her hospital bed:

“I am in great pain, but this is nothing compared to the pain and suffering that Palestinians go through on a regular basis,” said Abileah from her hospital bed. “I have been to Gaza and the West Bank, I have seen Palestinians homes bombed and bulldozed, I have talked to mothers whose children have been killed during the invasion of Gaza, I have seen the Jewish-only roads leading to ever-expanding settlements in the West Bank. This kind of colonial occupation cannot continue. As a Jew and a U.S. citizen, I feel obligated to rise up and speak out against stop these crimes being committed in my name and with my tax dollars.”
